STIR/SHAKEN, robocalls, and spoofing
STIR/SHAKEN helps to identify spoofed Automatic Number Identification (ANI) or caller ID. Businesses spoofing numbers for legitimate purposes may continue doing so, I.E. for a customer service line. This is being put into place to prevent illegitimate usage of spoofing by the likes of robocalls, which are using advanced communication systems to actively spoof and call many times to trick consumers.
